Why Vurra Constituency is a Hot-cake Parliamentary Seat Come 2026
ARUA. Vurra Constituency in Arua district is one of the most competitive Parliamentary seats to watch in the West Nile sub-region come 2026 general elections.
This is because the seat, currently represented in Parliament by Yovan Adriko, has attracted close to ten contestants with more yet to come.
Those who have so far declared interest to unseat Adriko are Eng. Gabriel Ajedra Aridru, the former State Minister of Finance in charge of General Duties and also the former Vurra County Member of Parliament (MP), Peter Pariyo, a businessman, Charity Lenia Kevin, the former Vice Guild President of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Emmanuel Adradu, a businessman from Arivu and John Anguyo who intends to contest on the Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) ticket.
Others are Maj. Godfrey Andrua and Victor Adrale Baku who are yet to either retire or resign from service before joining the tight race to the 12th Parliament of the Republic of Uganda.
The latest person to declare interest in the same seat is Joseph Aniku Andati, a youthful Lawyer from Ezuku Parish in Vurra sub-county.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend, Aniku said he has been propelled to contest for Vurra Constituency Parliamentary position because of the pain, predicament, the sorrow and the shame the people of Vurra have been going through.
“So, I felt I should take it upon myself to change the narrative of the leaders saying that they are the ones to take the leadership of our district fully. They used to say that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow and the tomorrow is now. There is no other tomorrow that we are going to be waiting for, we feel the time is now to take the full responsibility of developing our area,” Aniku said.
“We don’t want this scenario whereby we are going to keep quiet while seeing things not happening in the rightful way because we know very well that if we keep quiet, it will reach a period whereby our children will ask you, Daddy, you were there as a responsible youth, why didn’t you take action against the mess that took place in Arua? So, I feel I have to take it upon myself alongside my professional work to save Vurra County before I’m questioned,” Aniku added.
Aniku promised that if given the opportunity, his work will mainly be to lobby for services like good roads, access to clean water, electricity, schools and health units among others for his people of Vurra.
He argued that lobbying is what most MPs elected to represent the people of Vurra in the August House have failed to do of recent.
Like Aniku, majority of the people showing interest in Vurra County Parliamentary seat are coming on the ruling party ticket given the fact that the Constituency is predominantly in support of NRM.
