Terego’s MP Obigah Joins Colleagues In Opposing Regional Parliamentary Sittings
TEREGO. Rose Obigah, the Terego District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) has joined a list of MPs opposed to the proposed regional Parliamentary sittings.
This is after reports indicated that the Parliamentary Commission plans to spend five billion shillings on each of the regional sittings in Gulu, Mbarara, Masaka and Mbale.
The Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, recently brought the matter to the limelight, saying the opposition cabinet had resolved to boycott the regional sitting citing the hefty cost estimated at twenty billion shillings.
Similarly, in a video clip circulating on social media, the Aringa South MP, Sunday York Odria (NRM) also opposed the move. Odria said what special message is going to be sent in Northern Uganda that can’t be sent at Parliament in Kampala.
“What special message are you going to send that people are going to hear or see in Mbarara, in Gulu, in Mbale; each trip is shs5bn tax payers’ money. Spend it for what, what is it that can not be done here in this Parliament (in Kampala)?” Odria wondered, adding that this corruption must stop!
The latest MP to join the list of Legislators who are openly and quietly fighting to save the taxpayers’ money from being ‘wasted’ in the regional Parliamentary sittings is Rose Obigah (NRM).
Speaking during a fact-finding trip made by the Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances and Implementation to Arua City on August 8, 2024, Obigah said instead of Parliament going to Gulu, Mbarara, Masaka and Mbale, spending shillings fifteen to twenty billion, let them give the money to war claimants.
“As MP for Terego, tell me which information I have not collected from Terego that I can’t deliver in that Parliament in Kampala, that I want the Parliament to come to you people. I hear bringing Parliament nearer to you people; you mean you don’t greet me, you don’t hug me, isn’t it bringing Parliament nearer to you?” Obigah asked to the applause of the war claimants in West Nile who were meeting with the committee members in Arua City Council Hall.
As a result, Bagala who doubles as the Deputy Chairperson of the Government Assurances and Implementation Committee of Parliament, noted that their duty as a committee is to write a report on the demand for Parliament to surrender the billions earmarked for the regional Parliamentary sittings to war claimants.
“Members thought instead of Parliament coming to Northern Uganda, that money should be given to them (war claimants). Our duty is simply to put that in our committee report and then Parliament will be tasked with the duty of considering that proposal by the members or the war claimants. So, our duty is to gather all that information and put it in the report,” Bagala asserted.
The first regional Parliamentary sitting is slated to take place at the end of this month in Gulu City, Northern Uganda.
It’s really impressed to be part of the team
Honestly I don’t see any rational in holding regional parliamentary sessions if not for personal aggrandizement
Send that money to Katrini SUBCOUNTY and we shall build 100 classrooms with it and ensure the 470 children sharing one classroom in Ombatini Primary School have eight more classrooms to learn from.
Thank you Hon Obiga Rose for standing with your people.
