ARUA. Muni University is set to graduate a total of 314 students during the seventh graduation ceremony to be held at the University main campus in Arua city on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Speaking to journalists at the campus on Monday, Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini, the University Vice Chancellor, said of the 314 students, 63 percent are male while 37 percent are female.

“These students are going to graduate from a total of 14 programs which range from certificate, undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The certificate programs we are talking about are what we call higher education access certificate programs. These are programs approved by the National Council for Higher Education to give access for those students who didn’t get the minimum points for university entry in ‘A’ Level. So, they are admitted here and spend one year with us as we prepare them for university admission. So, we are going to have them congratulated on the same occasion,” Anguma stated.

He added that: “We also have a total of 78 students who will be congratulated upon completion of the higher education access certificate and at bachelor’s degree level, we have a total of 189 students graduating in various programs, then at post graduate level, we have a total of 47 students graduating.”

He listed the programs in which they are going to graduate students as; Master of Education in Educational Planning and Management, post graduate Diploma in Education, post graduate Diploma in Financial Management and post graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management.

Others are; Bachelors in Information Systems, Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Science with Education; Biological option, Physical option, Agriculture option, Computer studies and Physical Education, Bachelor of Education Primary; Arts option and Science option, Bachelor of Nursing Science, Bachelor of Business Administration and Management, Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, the Higher Education Certificate in Humanities, Higher Education Certificate in Biological Sciences and Higher Education Certificate in Physical Sciences.

Anguma also presented the statistics of the students who have graduated since the inception of the University.

He said the first cohort of 77 students joined Muni University in 2014 and graduated in 2017.

“Then 2018, we graduated 92, in 2019, we graduated 107, in 2020, we graduated 103, in 2021, we graduated 143, in 2022, we graduated 117, in 2023, we graduated 143, then in 2024, we are graduating 314. So, as you have noted, these numbers are on the rise,” Anguma said.

He, however, observed that previously, the numbers were low because from inception, the university was only admitting the government sponsored students who are 100 in number.

“So, from 2014, we were getting 100 and those 100 students don’t all report. For the case of 2014, out of the 100 students, there were 87 who reported, so out of the 87, 77 graduated and that kept on for a long time. But since 2022, the enrollment has been increasing,” Anguma explained.

He noted that in 2022, their enrollment was 742 students in the whole University while in 2023, their enrollment rose from 742 to 1,369 students and in 2024 as of now, the enrollment is 2,023 students.

“So, you can expect that next year; the first Saturday of November, the number of graduates will definitely be higher than 314,” Anguma stated.

He assured the public that the University Chancellor will personally preside over the award of the certificates and degrees, and that they are also expecting the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to grace the occasion.

Abraham Omaido, the University Deputy Secretary, said as Muni University, they are growing and growing stronger.

“We want to thank the government of Uganda for the continuous support that they have given to this University, we want to thank the parents because without the parents, I don’t think we would have made it to this very day. As Muni University, we are very proud and we want to assure the members of the public that we are growing and we are growing stronger. We want to invite everybody to join us on the 9th of November such that we congratulate and wish our graduates well as they go and serve our people,” Omaido said.
