ARUA. Salim Kumakech, the Arua Resident City Commissioner (RCC), has commended the Muslims in Arua city for being peaceful during the month of Ramadan.
He encouraged the Muslim community in Arua and elsewhere to continue with the spirit of observing peace even after Eid-El-Fitr because Islam is all about peace and total submission to the will of Allah.
“I wish to congratulate all Muslims across the globe and Arua City in particular, upon successfully finishing the Holy Month of Ramadan. It is my prayer that Almighty Allah accepts all our fasting and prayers!” Kumakech said during a press briefing in his office on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
Kumakech held the press conference to pass his Eid-El-Fitr message to all Muslims ahead of Eid day celebrations slated to take place on either Sunday or Monday.
“In a special way, I would like to thank you for being peaceful during the month of Ramadan and encourage that it should continue as Islam means peace and total submission to the will of Allah. We must remain united as brothers and sisters in faith, love one another to attract Allah’s blessings. Disunity is what we must stand strongly to denounce and condemn,” Kumakech advised.
He urged Muslims to send their children to school and also embrace the different government programs so as to alleviate poverty.
“We must send our children to school if they are to fit in the current world. Education is the only gift you can give to your children but not wealth. I also encourage you to fully participate in undertaking government programs of alleviating poverty among the population. The government has launched the Parish Development Model (PDM) to increase and improve household incomes of citizens. The country is heading to middle income status and you must join the wagon,” Kumakech said.
But the RCC appealed to the Muslim faithful to always guide their children to avoid committing crime which may lead to their arrest and subsequent imprisonment.
Meanwhile he commended the security team for doing their best in ensuring safety of the society and their property especially in Arua City.
Collins Asea, the regional police spokesperson for the North Western region, said as Muslims are expecting Eid-El-Fitr, police encourages community members to enjoy the day peacefully.

“In such a celebration, we don’t expect criminality especially theft; grabbing of phones, grabbing of bags but people must enjoy the day responsibly,” Asea guided.
He, however, warned that those who will be found acting outside the law will be arrested and dealt with accordingly.
Asea assured the public that they have done deployment as security officers, and promised that they will continue doing patrol besides engaging leaders to have dialogue with the known criminals so that Arua city is free from criminality.
