ARUA. The youths under Arua city boxing club have organized a boxing show on Idd Day to raise funds for the needy ghetto youths who have gone back to school.

The proceeds of the day-show slated to take place at Arua city leisure park in Barifa behind UNHCR Arua office, will be used to buy scholastic materials and uniforms for the ghetto youths, majority of whom are orphans.

Speaking to journalists about the event slated to take place either on Sunday or Monday, Rashid Osino, the chairman of Arua city boxing club, said a total of 17 ghetto children have returned to various primary schools including Niva, Arua prisons and Arua Hill among others.

“They have been told to buy boots, uniforms, calculators, pens, bags and other things but they can’t afford to buy the required items because they are now in school. These are children who have been snatching people’s things on the streets but after talking to them, they left that life and went back to school. Now they don’t have money to buy the school requirements,” Osino said.

“And when they came to the club, they said chairman, you don’t have money, what can we do? They immediately proposed that since they are also boxers, let us organize for them a show so that they can actually raise money to address the challenges that they are facing in school. So, basically, we are doing this to address the challenges they are facing in school,” Osino added.

Osino appealed to the public to turn up in big numbers to support the young boys and girls who have now reformed so that they can attain the education they deserve.

“The boxing show will take place during the day and we have made it so cheap to favor our people. The show will start at 3:00pm and end at 6:30pm, and the entry fee for children is Shs2,000 while adults will pay only Shs5,000. The security of all revelers has been guaranteed because we have notified police who will provide the necessary security at the venue of the show,” Osino promised.

He said apart from boxing; they have prepared so many games for children who will turn up for the show to enjoy.

Ayub Aluma, the Assistant Coach of Arua city boxing club, said they have organized an entertaining boxing show of about seven different interesting fights for people to enjoy on Idd Day.

According to Aluma, all his boxers are well prepared to put on a maximum performance on the fateful day.

Junior Haruna, one of the reformed ghetto youths, said he returned to school this year after spending three years snatching people’s phones on the street.

Haruna who is now in P.4 at Arua Prison primary school, said school is modeling him into a good person because he doesn’t now find time to do wrong things like before.

“I’m happy that Hon. Osino has organized this boxing show to support us. Otherwise, it was increasingly becoming so hard for me to afford scholastic materials while in school. I want to appeal to my fellow children who are on the street to leave whatever they are doing and join us in school so that they can become better people in the future,” Haruna said.
