ARUA. Arua City Mayor, Sam Wadri Nyakua has come out publicly to disown an account created in his name on X, formerly Twitter platform with intent to tarnish his image.
Speaking to journalists in his office on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Nyakua said the fake account is suspected to have been sponsored by his political opponents ahead of the 2026 general election.
The mayor now wants police and other security agencies to start hunting for the people behind the account so as to bring them to book for impersonation and spreading falsehood in his name.
“Yesterday, there was a message which came from X (Twitter) purportedly authored by myself. There is somebody who created a Twitter account using my campaign poster as a profile picture and in that message, they portrayed that I have said my purpose of coming for this election is to protect the interest of Ayivu business people and I’m going to protect their Ayivu land and that I can do without the votes of Aringa people and Muslims,” Nyakua said.
“They portrayed me as a tribal person, as a sectarian person, as someone who is here to cater for the interest of one community. This is totally a lie. I have never in my life held a Twitter (X) account. I was surprised yesterday when people started calling me, people who were concerned sent the message to me on WhatsApp, some people who were concerned were rigging me to find out what this is. So, categorically, I want to inform the population of Arua city that I do not have an X or Twitter account,” Nyakua added.
Nyakua further observed that he isn’t a person who is sectarian as portrayed in the X account created by his political nemesis.

“You all know that I have been an LC5 Chairman for ten years and nothing of inciting one community against the other has taken place, it is on record. Two, even when I’m the City Mayor here, I have never experienced an incident of inciting one community against the other,” Nyakua stated.
When the matter came up, Nyakua said he decided to forward the fake account to security operatives to look for the person who created it.
“We are going to get the telephone number and we are going to bring this person to book. I need votes, yes, but when we are looking for these votes, we must not divide people because there is life after votes and there is life after campaigns. I know this fake X account was created by my opponent camp; I don’t know which camps but we are going to find out when the security people finally get the person involved,” Nyakua promised.
He said they are going to deal with the culprits of the malicious X account accordingly.
“I want to appeal to the people out there to be calm, this has never been my character and I will never exhibit it whether I am in this office or I’m outside. For example, the people who are heading my campaign taskforce are Aringa people like Buga Mayor who is an Aringa and a Muslim, Sheik Tahir is an Aringa and a Muslim, Ali Onali is an Aringa and a Muslim; these are the three people from the Central Division here who have joined the other groups from elsewhere to steer my campaigns.
Why would I on this earth be speaking against the Aringa and Muslims when they are the ones handling my team. It looks ambiguous!” Nyakua remarked.
