Museveni’s Young Brother Toyota Joins Arua Christians in Building Church
ARUA. President Yoweri Museveni’s younger brother, Michael Nuwagira commonly referred to as Toyota, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, joined the Christians of St. Vincent De Paul Ojulua Chapel in Arua Central Division, Arua city to build their church.
Toyota who came on invitation of Arua Central Division Member of Parliament (MP), Jackson Atima Lee Buti, donated shs10m cash and pledged another shs10m towards the completion of the church.
Toyota’s invitation was driven by an experience Atima went through when he and the Christians of Ojulua chapel were washed by rain during prayers in the unroofed house of the Lord.
Following the experience, Atima immediately gave the Christians shs10m cash to help them in organizing a fundraising.
He then extended an invitation to Toyota to come and support the occasion which later helped the organizers to raise millions of shillings in cash and pledges.
During the function, Atima gave the organizers a cheque of shs20m and he was quickly supported by his two good friends; Hon. Stephen Kangwagye Rwakanuma, the Bukanga County MP who gave a cheque of shs2m and Hon. Dr. Abraham Isamat, the Kapir County MP who contributed shs1m cash and a pledge of shs4m.
Other leaders who supported the function were Kassiano Ezati Wadri, the former Arua Municipality MP who contributed shs1.5m cash and Rose Ayaka Atima, the former Maracha district woman MP who contributed shs500,000 in cash to support the occasion among other people.
In his remarks, Toyota, also the National Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), thanked Atima for inviting him to Arua to join the Christians in building the Church.
“I’m so humbled today to be in Arua and West Nile. I want to thank my young brother Hon. Atima for inviting me, it is a pleasure for me to be here again. I also want to thank the church leaders and organizers of this occasion. I’m a church person, I don’t mind whether Catholic or Protestant, even in the Mosque I do go. So, I have come here to support this church through my brother Atima and I have brought here shs10m cash and I will add shs10m on roofing,” Toyota said, attracting a loud applause from the congregation.
He equally used the opportunity to urge PLU supporters in the West Nile region to remain focused, adding that for now they should support President Museveni and all NRM candidates in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
“I want to tell PLU supporters that those who think that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK) is not coming; you remember very well he said that he is not coming now, that we all support Gen. Museveni for this time – meaning there is another time. You shouldn’t get frustrated, we have to organize, we have to get more support because we have not reached the whole country, so PLU, be strong and continue mobilizing,” Toyota appealed.
“And I want to tell PLU supporters that you should always identify yourselves but don’t fight, just be strong and be proud of PLU. In PLU, we work as a team, we avoid fights, so every leader in PLU whether small or big, we are all PLU supporters. Please let us support President Museveni today and be prepared for tomorrow,” Toyota advised.
He assured the public that Atima wasn’t given the PLU coordination role in West Nile for nothing, stressing that when they visited West Nile, Atima coordinated and mobilized for PLU very well.
Toyota urged the people of Arua Central Division to consider giving MP Atima another chance in Parliament because he is now well known to the people in government.
He said Atima’s return to Parliament will help to reduce on the risk of losing out future opportunities from the government structures that are already working well with him.
Similarly, Hon. Kangwagye said Atima is a very good, respectful and tested leader who has been coordinating very well with them, a reason he honored his invitation to come all the way from Western Uganda to Arua to support him in building Ojulua Chapel.
Atima thanked everybody who turned up to grace the occasion and also conveyed apologies from the Ministers and MPs who were taken up by national duties abroad.
Atima also reported that the people of West Nile love President Museveni so much because of the peace he has ushered in the country.
“Dear Guest of Honor, the People of Arua Central Division, the people of Arua city and the people of West Nile love President Museveni much. The people of West Nile love President Museveni not for nothing but because of the peace they are enjoying in this country. Two, the people of West Nile love President Museveni because of the infrastructural development that he has done in the region like the road network and electricity among others,” Atima said.
Atima further pledged to continue supporting President Museveni in the coming elections and later Gen. Muhoozi when the time comes for him to lead this country.
