ARUA. Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, the Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, is expected to grace the silver jubilee of West Nile Effort for Museveni, a top NRM pressure group in the West Nile sub-region.
The members of West Nile Effort for Museveni will mark 25 years of dedicated mobilization for President Yoweri Museveni and NRM candidates in West Nile on February 27, 2025.
The function to be held in Arua Central Division, Arua City will be presided over by Todwong, who has confirmed attendance through Jackson Atima Lee Buti, the area Member of Parliament (MP).
During the occasion, the NRM SG will officially launch the various West Nile Effort for Museveni projects including the NRM Umoja Super Yellow textile project, goat and poultry rearing projects in the different parts of Arua city and beyond.
Flanked by Dr. Charles Ayume, the Koboko Municipality MP during one of the preparatory meetings early this week, Atima told the members of West Nile Effort for Museveni that he met Todwong in person and that he has confirmed coming to Arua for the upcoming event.

“I thank you West Nile Effort for Museveni for standing the taste of time. For all these 25 years, you have been resilient, you have been patient and you have been so hard working. 25 years in existence is not an easy thing!” Atima said.
He added that: “Before I joined politics, before I became a leader at this level, I used to hear about the West Nile Effort for Museveni and I used to hear about the products of the West Nile Effort for Museveni. You have produced leaders for this country; RDCs, Assistant RDCs, Deputies, Commissioners, Ambassadors out of West Nile Effort for Museveni. And I want to thank you for initiating the project of NRM Umoja Super Yellow launch, you are sending a message to the chairperson of NRM, HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who knows you very well, who appreciates you and who loves you.”
Atima said it would have been the best thing to have HE Museveni to come and launch the Super Yellow project but because of other duties he has and time factor, the NRM SG will represent him.
“And I want to declare that the NRM SG, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has accepted to be here on 27th February this month. I want to thank you for your resilience. Your team came to Kampala four times; sometimes you come, you can’t find him, sometimes you come and he is busy, sometimes you come, they tell you where is your area MP, you went through a lot but I want to thank you for your resilience. Finally, the SG confirmed his coming when I was with him on Friday in State House, Entebbe,” Atima assured the pressure group members on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the home of Late Col. Ibrahim Abiriga.
As a result, Zaitun Chandia, the West Nile Effort for Museveni Vice Chairperson, thanked MP Atima for always being there for them.
She said the coming of Todwong as confirmed by Atima is a blessing to the West Nile Effort for Museveni members in the region.
“I want to appreciate SG Todwong in his absence for having honored our invitation. So, we are very happy about that. It wasn’t an easy thing; we went through the area MP, Hon. Atima Jackson Lee Buti who struggled to make sure that the date is now fixed on 27th February and the SG will be in the region,” Chandia said.

She, however, noted that apart from launching the NRM Umoja Super Yellow textile project among other projects, they will also use the opportunity to remind President Museveni through Todwong about their pending Presidential pledges.
Chandia said some of the unfulfilled Presidential pledges made more than ten years ago for West Nile Effort for Museveni pressure group include; Shs500m, a mini-bus for mobilization and 9 motorbikes for the coordinators in the then nine districts of West Nile.
But she observed that since the number of the districts in the region have increased, they will kindly urge Todwong to appeal to President Museveni to consider increasing the amount of the money and logistics pledged that time.
In his remarks, Dr. Ayume called upon the people of Arua Central Division to vote Atima Jackson Lee Buti back to Parliament come 2026 general elections for continuity of the good work he is doing for his constituency.
What has Atima Lee Buti done for the city? The dirtiest and darkest city amongst all the Uganda cities.
