MARACHA. The 2026 general election in Maracha East Constituency, Maracha district has gained momentum with the coming of Justus Aduma Yeero.

Aduma, a social worker, received a heroic welcome in Tara Sub-County on Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Aduma was in Tara to declare bid for Maracha East Constituency Parliamentary seat with intent to replace Ruth Ondoru Lematia in the coming elections.

He was received by a mammoth crowd which kept on chanting his name, singing and dancing in excitement, a kilometer away, in a procession to the venues of his meeting.

While addressing the locals, Aduma who is vying for the Parliamentary seat on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, said if given the opportunity, his first priority will be to make clean and safe water available in every village of Maracha East.

Aduma noted that through PHASE, an International Nongovernmental organization he works for, he managed to construct shallow water wells in every sub-county in Maracha East Constituency.

“If I can bring for you these shallow water wells before going to Parliament, how much will I do for you if elected as a Member of Parliament (MP)?” Aduma asked, attracting a loud applause from the residents.

Besides water, Aduma said he will also lobby reusable sanitary pads for all primary school girls.

According to Aduma, most girls fail to complete primary school due to lack of sanitary pads especially when they start experiencing menstrual cycles.

“Research has shown that girls enroll more than boys in primary one and two but reaching P.4 and P.5, they start dropping out of school because they have started experiencing a menstrual cycle yet their parents can’t afford to buy sanitary pads for them. At the end, you will find only 10 to 15 girls in P.6 and P.7 while the boys are over 40. This is because most of the girls dropped along the way due to the shame of being laughed at by boys during menstruation,” Aduma said.

“So, I want to ensure that every girl in school gets a reusable sanitary pad which can at least last for a year and I will routinely donate the pads to ensure that our girls remain in school. Through our organization, we have done this in Somalia and it is working very well for school girls. So, I want to do the same here,” Aduma promised.

Aduma also excited the elderly people when he promised to go and convince his colleague MPs if given the opportunity, to reduce the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) beneficiary age from 80 to at least 60 so that majority of the elderly people in Maracha East can access the government funds.

He said currently, it is believed that when one clocks 60 years, the person has become weak to continue working, a reason civil servants retire at the age of 60 and continue receiving half of their salary from the government every month till death.

“If that can happen to government employees at 60 years old, why not you, the farmers who do a lot of hard work down here? I therefore, want to go and ask the government to consider paying you at 60 years because in Maracha here, very few people reach the age of 80,” Aduma stated.

He equally gave hope to women, youths and persons living with disabilities that through friends, he will lobby for well-equipped skilling centers where locals can get practical knowledge to start their own income-generating businesses to alleviate household poverty.

Relatedly, Aduma encouraged councilors to be visionary about the future of Maracha by acquiring land in the name of the district, making it easy for him to lobby investors to come and establish factories in Maracha so as to offer job opportunities for the people.

Aduma’s remarks touched the hearts of the locals who turned up for the meetings with many confessing that he indeed came to remove the blanket that was covered on the residents of Tara sub-county.

“I thought I didn’t give birth to an educated boy, but today, I have got a boy in the names of Aduma Yeero Justus. Aduma’s speech has touched me so much especially when he promised to push the government to consider paying us who have clocked 60 years. Reaching 80 years isn’t easy, it is only by God’s grace that one reaches 80 years. I have now believed that truly Aduma has come to remove the 6-inch blanket which was covered on the people of Tara,” said Asunta Maturu, a resident of Olanga village, Yiddu parish.

Margaret Candiru, a resident of Olua village, Pajama parish expressed pain about her only daughter who was married off in P.5.

She thanked Aduma for coming to the aid of school girls who drop out of school due to lack of sanitary pads.

Meanwhile Philliam Jokibo, a youth in Onduvu village was impressed by the decision taken by a fellow youthful Aduma to go and represent their views in Parliament.

He remained optimistic that through Aduma, the voice of the youths will reach Parliament and that their main challenge of unemployment will be looked into by the government without fail.
