ARUA CITY – The Fort Portal City Clerk has been appointed as the new substantive Secretary of Muni University.

Ambrose Ocen will take over as University Secretary, replacing Emmanuel Banya Natal, who resigned the position to pursue elective politics.

Banya is now the Member of Parliament (MP) for Koboko County after winning the seat unopposed on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

Ocen’s appointment was announced by Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini, the Vice Chancellor of Muni University, during a recent press briefing at the University Council Hall.

“We have been looking for a substantive University Secretary. Yesterday (June 29), we got one, he is Mr. Ambrose Ocen, who is currently the Town Clerk of Fort Portal City. He will replace Hon. Emmanuel Banya in the substantive position of University Secretary,” Prof. Katrini revealed.

The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to thank Prof. Robert Kajobe, the Director of Graduate Training, Research and Innovations at Muni University, for stepping in as Acting University Secretary after Banya’s resignation.

“Prof. Kajobe was not interested in the position of University Secretary because he is totally committed to research. Even while running that busy office, he would still find time to write proposals. He is our research powerhouse,” Katrini said.

“When Mr. Ocen reports, Prof. Kajobe will revert to his substantive role as Director of Graduate Training, Research and Innovations. We sincerely thank him for steering the office so effectively during this transitional period when the University did not have a substantive Secretary,” he added.

In 2016, Ocen served as Town Clerk of the then Arua Municipal Council for only three months before being transferred to Kiira Municipality in October of the same year to serve in the same capacity.
