Paidha Black Angels, the newly promoted side to the FUFA Big League (FBL), have been making waves in the transfer market as they gear up for the new season. The Zombo-based club has bolstered its squad with several key signings, showing their intent to secure an immediate return to the Star Times Uganda Premier League (UPL), which they last played 4 years back.

The most recent addition to the squad is the lanky forward Brian Kayanja, who joins from UPL side NEC on a one-year deal. Kayanja struggled to secure a regular starting position under Hussien Mbalangu at NEC, largely due to the presence of prolific striker Abang Cromwell, another player with roots at Paidha Black Angels. Due to limited playing time, exiting the doors of the Lugogo-based side was always expected, and his move back to the Fufa Big League could prove pivotal for the Angels of Zombo.

Kayanja’s arrival is a major boost for the Angels, who will be looking to his experience and goal-scoring prowess to spearhead their promotion campaign. His presence in the attack adds a new dimension to Paidha’s offense, providing an aerial threat and a target man capable of holding up play, as opposed to what they had at the Regional League.

However, Paidha Black Angels’ transfer activity didn’t stop there. The club has been on a recruitment spree, strengthening their midfield with the acquisition of tough-tackling holding midfielder Fredrick Mayindi from fellow FBL side Kaaro Karungi. Known for his combative style and ability to break up opposition play, Mayindi will add steel to the Angels’ midfield as they prepare for a cheeky FBL campaign full of bloody derbies within West Nile.

In a move that highlights their ambition, the Angels also secured the services of diminutive playmaker Billy Nkata, the son of legendary coach Paul Nkata. Billy, who last featured for Luwero United after a stint at Express FC, brings creativity and flair to the team’s attacking midfield. His vision and technical ability will be key to unlocking defenses in the Big League, making him a vital piece of the puzzle for the Angels.

With the transfer window still open up to the late hours, there could more signings as we gear towards the deadline day. Fans and pundits alike are eagerly watching to see who else might arrive at Barokoro Stadium, adding further excitement to an already eventful transfer window.

The new signings will have their first opportunity to impress Paidha’s passionate supporters when they host Uganda Premier League heavyweights URA FC on Sunday, September 1, 2024. The always-buzzing atmosphere at Barokoro Stadium will be the perfect stage for the marquee signings to make their debuts against Alex Isabirye’s coached side.
