MARACHA. The residents of Obiba sub-county in Maracha district were on Saturday, March 29, 2025 treated to excitement when Nelson Uhuru, a Parliamentary aspirant for Maracha County promised to build a technical school in the constituency using the Shs200 million Parliament will give him for buying a car once elected into office.

Uhuru, who was at the sub-county headquarters to form his campaign team in the area, said there is no need for him to buy a new car because he already has one.

He instead said the Shs200m will be used to establish a technical school to empower the jobless youths in Maracha County with all the necessary practical skills to make money.

“I want to remove the idleness in Maracha County, I want to give the opportunity for the youth in Maracha to come and learn; let them learn practical skills. So, my first promise for the people of Maracha County is to construct a technical school and the source of fund for that technical school is the Shs200m Parliament will give me for buying a car once I win the election,” Uhuru said.

He added that: “I don’t need a new car because my father has given me one which I will use for the next five years. Instead, I want to build a technical school so that our youths can come and learn technical work.

Let them learn how to build houses, let them come and learn mechanics, let them come and learn driving, the women can learn tailoring so that instead of going to buy clothes from Arua, from Nyadri, let us make our own clothes here, we can establish saloons and garages here so that we get our money from within.”

Uhuru said his main intention of building the technical school in Maracha County is to change people’s lifestyle so that they can alleviate household poverty.

He observed that many youths who drop out of school and end up abusing drugs, sit by the roadside yet if empowered, they can make their own money.

“This is the time to change that kind of lifestyle. I want all our youths to be productive by engaging in income generating activities, and this will be possible when they acquire practical skills from such a technical school I intend to construct for them,” Uhuru said.

Philip Anguyo, a resident of Draju village in Obiba sub-county, expressed gratitude to Uhuru for thinking about youth empowerment through practical skills.

“We usually have the challenge of school fees and as a result, it is hard for most of us to pay our children up to university level. Now this proposal brought by Uhuru will benefit us so much because it will accommodate our children who end up dropping out of school due to lack of school fees. They will be able to acquire technical knowledge which will help them to survive on their own. So, I’m very happy with this initiative,” Anguyo said.

Florence Ajidiru, a resident of Bura village, Kamaka parish in Oluffe sub-county, also commended Uhuru for pledging to build a technical school in Maracha County.

She said most youth in Maracha county are idle and disorderly because leaders don’t think of uplifting them.

“These youths have resorted to sitting by the roadside begging for things, stealing people’s property, smoking marijuana, drinking alcohol and chewing Khat (Mairungi) because they lack what to do. They are poor and uneducated yet there are so many opportunities out there. For me, the decision Uhuru has taken to build a technical school is a good one because it will help to reduce the problem of unemployment. I will support Uhuru to go through so that he can get the money he intends to use for building the technical school he has promised,” Ajidiru said.
