ARUA. Jackson Atima Lee Buti, the Arua Central Division Member of Parliament (MP), has given accountability of the services he has rendered to the people of his constituency in the last four years in Parliament.

Atima gave the accountability during a press conference convened at Hill Top Hotel in Arua city on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

He also used the opportunity to officially launch his campaign program aimed at retaining the Central Division Parliamentary seat under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

The development occurred barely five days after Atima picked the NRM form from the party headquarters in Kampala, expressing interest to run for another term in office.

“I’m humbled by the trust the people of Arua Central Division have given me; the vote of confidence they have put in me to represent them in Parliament. As I launch my bid for re-election, I want to assure the people of Arua Central Division that my commitment to you as my community remains unwavering,” said Atima, who also doubles as the NRM regional Whip for West Nile region.

“My slogan ‘Oya Suruku, Oya Diniku,’ is more than just a phrase, but it is a promise to prioritize our people’s needs above all. I have worked tirelessly to lobby for our communities’ interests, advocating for better services with the government, with various stakeholders in this country, with friends in areas of service delivery, especially infrastructure development of this region from roads, hospitals, schools and other social amenities that we see including social welfare programs,” Atima added.

Atima noted that he has been a vocal champion of inclusivity; ensuring that every individual regardless of background, tribe, status, religion and political affiliation, gets the services they deserve in Arua Central Division.

“As the MP of Arua Central, I have demonstrated my ability to deliver tangible results within the four years in Parliament. I have worked closely with different stakeholders to secure funding for key projects in the Central Division here. I have worked along the areas of improved health care, education and support local businesses and entrepreneurs in various aspects,” Atima stressed.

Besides, Atima said he has been a serious advocate for transparency and accountability by fighting against corruption in the city and the country so that resources meant for the people reach them for the greater good of their wellbeing.

He, however, noted that his work is still far from getting over, adding that whatever he has done has not yet come to completion.

“I recognize that our community still faces many challenges, especially the people of Arua Central Division. Arua City being a cosmopolitan city, the center of the city that I represent has challenges ranging from inadequate infrastructure to limited economic opportunities and that is why I get encouraged that I need to come back to complete all these missing gaps so that my people get the best services that they deserve. That is why I’m committed to continuing my work as their MP, driving the initiatives that will spur growth, development and prosperity for all of them who live in this cosmopolitan city.

In the next term, I pledge to focus on lobbying for the following key areas; infrastructure that has not been completed especially the key roads in the Central Division including bridges, embark on economic empowerment of my people, improve and empower local business communities, recommend youths to undertake skills training from the regional industrial hubs so that they can make use of the current availability of electricity that we have among other things,” Atima promised.
