NRM presidential flag bearer, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has promised a special wealth creation fund targeting unemployed university graduates, as well as religious and cultural leaders in Yumbe District.

The President also pledged to establish a presidential demonstration farm in the district to provide free seedlings of cocoa, coffee, and other legumes, aimed at improving local livelihoods.

Museveni made the remarks during his campaign rally in Yumbe District on Thursday, following an offer of land by Hon. Zaitun Driwaru, an NRM Commissioner at the party’s Electoral Commission. Driwaru donated about 10 acres of land in Goboro Sub-county for the establishment of the presidential demonstration farm and requested the President to develop it.

“Your Excellency, the people of Yumbe are requesting you to establish a presidential demonstration farm for our people to learn and generate their own wealth. We have land of about 10 acres in Goboro and another 20 acres available for it. Please, we need the farm,” she said.

In response, President Museveni assured the people that the government will establish the demonstration farm to supply free seedlings across the district. He also pledged to support religious and cultural leaders with special funding to promote wealth creation and fight poverty.

“I’ve listened to your request, so I’m going to establish a presidential demonstration farm here in Yumbe since you have offered me land. I’m going to use it to provide seedlings of cocoa, coffee, and others for the people for free,” Museveni stated.

“We are going to create special funding for university graduates who do not have jobs. We also have funding for religious and cultural leaders, so that they don’t interfere with the ordinary people on PDM and Emyooga.”

The Minister for Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite, revealed that Uganda has over 278 factories employing more than 44,000 people, including young people.

She reaffirmed that the government will establish factories in the industrial parks in West Nile, where Yumbe has offered 1,200 acres of land, Koboko 150 acres, Nebbi 600 acres, and others, to provide job opportunities for the youth.

“We have enough land for investment in West Nile, which will employ young people in the region. Yumbe has offered over 1,200 acres of land where the government will establish factories.

Now, we have power from the National Grid, which is adequate for industrialization. We urge the people of West Nile to vote for President Museveni so that we protect the gains the region has achieved.”

The NRM campaign trail continues in the West Nile region, with three districts remaining on the schedule.
