MARACHA – Moses Obeta Drakua, a parliamentary candidate for Maracha County, has pledged to deliver genuine servant leadership to the people if elected to represent the constituency in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
Obeta stated that he would use his position in Parliament to lobby for essential government services, aiming to transform lives in the constituency.
His key priorities include combating household poverty, economically empowering the youth, promoting universal access to education, ensuring quality health services, and improving infrastructure such as roads and electricity connectivity in rural areas of Maracha County.
Obeta made these commitments while addressing hundreds of residents at a rally in Alivu Parish, Kijomoro Sub-County, on Monday, December 15, 2025.

The rally, held in Ojipaku Village, provided an opportunity for many residents to publicly apologize for supporting opponents during the NRM primary elections. They officially switched to Obeta’s camp, vowing not to let him down this time.
In his address, Obeta welcomed the new supporters and urged them to resist monetary inducements.
“Don’t be deceived by money this time. If they give you money, take it and eat, but cast your vote for Obeta on January 15, 2026,” he said.
“In me, you will experience true servant leadership. My first priority will be to tackle the severe household poverty in Maracha County. I will lobby for government programs that can change your lives so that when you grow vegetables, you can sell them to buy food, and when you invest in livestock, you can afford your children’s school fees,” Obeta added.
He commended the Alivu community for establishing a local school, describing it as a positive step toward educating children.

Obeta noted that illiteracy significantly contributes to the high poverty levels in Maracha District overall, and that education is the key to overcoming it.
He appealed to voters to send him to Parliament, promising to provide porridge for pupils at the new community school and to use part of his MP salary to pay teachers until the government formally takes over the institution.
Additionally, Obeta plans to launch an adult literacy program in Maracha County to help elderly residents who missed formal education learn basic reading and writing in English, serving as motivation for their children to attend school.
“And once I am in Parliament, roads like this one here will no longer remain in such poor condition. I know road maintenance is the district’s responsibility, and they have the equipment, but when fuel is lacking, I will contribute part of my MP fuel allowance to ensure regular grading of these roads,” Obeta promised, to loud applause from the crowd.
He also outlined plans to support youth empowerment, health services, and broader infrastructure development in Maracha County.
Residents who spoke at the rally praised Obeta for his demonstrated leadership qualities.
They highlighted that Obeta has been supporting the community long before entering politics, through assistance to religious institutions, schools, and individuals which gives them confidence that he will deliver if elected.

Lawrence Alisiku, an elderly resident of Ojipaku Village, described Obeta’s contributions as immense and urged Alivu Parish voters to repay him by electing him as Maracha County’s next MP on January 15, 2026.
Irene Angujaru, another resident, reminded women in the area of the ongoing challenges like inadequate education and health services for their children.
She argued that Obeta, who understands local issues firsthand, is the best choice to address their challenges compared to other leaders. Angujaru cautioned women and youth against selling their votes, urging them not to be swayed by financial temptations and to stay committed to supporting Obeta.
