Uganda Is Inching Towards Another Crisis, Says Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu

TEREGO: The former Ugandan Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu, has revealed that Uganda is heading towards another state of crisis.
According to Mugisha, this country has gone through a series of crisis right from 1966 which the different governments then, failed to avoid.
“It seems to me as a keen observer of our history; we seem to be inching towards what would become another crisis. We need to avoid that, we don’t have to go into another crisis,” Muntu said during the burial of Kassiano Ezati Wadri’s son in Terego district on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
Benard Acidri died in Mulago hospital on Friday morning after collapsing the previous day due to unnoticed high blood pressure which caused the vein in the head to rupture.
He was later laid to rest at his ancestral home in Simveni village, Bileafe sub-county in Terego district.
But during the burial ceremony, Muntu who doubles as the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party President, said those who are currently in the government need to conduct a conversation among themselves over the anticipated crisis.
“Don’t shut your ears, don’t let your noses get closed so that you can’t smell. There is a saying that whatever wants to kill a dog, starts by killing its sense of smell because once a dog ceases to smell, it means it can easily walk into a Leopard or a Lion and that will be its end,” Muntu proverbially said.
“Listen to what we are saying, evaluate it, take action where you see sense in what we are saying because this is our country, we don’t want to slide into another crisis with our eyes open. Pride goes before a fall!” Muntu added.

He said if you see anybody whom you advise and they don’t listen because of pride, know that power is so tempting.
“When I say that, I’m talking to those in government because power tempts. It is easy to get drunk with power, easy! And when you are drunk with power, you cease to have a capacity to listen. Even the most sensible advice, you can’t hear it because pride and arrogance close you, and you think you are like somewhere and nothing can happen, but things happen. Change also happens, and there is change which is going to happen. So, let’s see how we can manage it so that we don’t ever have another crisis,” Muntu stated.
Muntu said they will continue playing their part as leaders in opposition and also requested those in the government to play their role in ensuring that the country doesn’t plunge into another state of crisis.
He, however, noted that fortunately or unfortunately, those in the government are the ones who have control over security services.
“Ensure that they remain or go back to a disciplined force and ensure that – that discipline is maintained. Security services are the bedrock of stability in the country; you lose discipline, the foundation of the country will crack wide-open, then you get a problem,” Muntu warned.
He asked the RCCs and the RDCs at the funeral to report to their bosses to listen to their (opposition) voices, adding that they will not stop speaking the truth regardless of who it is.
“Because only God is the Alpha and Omega. Those who think they are the Alpha and Omega can’t become so. Those who think they are the Alpha and Omega, what God does, he lifts up their skirts and exposes their nakedness, time then shows everybody who they are. That is life since creation,” Muntu said.
However, Godwin Angalia, the Terego Resident District Commissioner (RDC), disagreed with Muntu and said Uganda is peaceful and that they are in charge.
“There is no crisis in Uganda but there is a crisis in Congo that is why they come here because Uganda is peaceful. There is also a crisis in South Sudan and that is why we are hosting so many of them here as refugees. So, I want to say that Uganda is so peaceful and we are in charge,” Angalia said.
