Uganda’s Leadership Shift! Atima Says New NRM CEC Paves Way for Gen. Muhoozi

ARUA: Jackson Atima Lee Buti, the Arua Central Division Member of Parliament (MP) and Government Chief Whip for West Nile, has stated that the election of youthful leaders into the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) is a clear indication that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the best choice to succeed his father as President of Uganda.

Atima, who also serves as the West Nile coordinator for Muhoozi’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), noted that most of the newly elected CEC members are supporters of the Chief of Defence Forces.

He highlighted that, apart from President Yoweri Museveni and Al-Hajj Moses Kigongo, the NRM’s first National Vice Chairperson, the majority of CEC members are young leaders aligned with Muhoozi’s PLU pressure group.

Atima made these remarks following the just concluded NRM’s delegates’ conference at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, where he congratulated the newly elected CEC members, including President Yoweri Museveni, the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who was elected as the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), and Hamson Denis Obua, the new NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, among others.

“The election of young leaders is not limited to the CEC. It began with the Local Council I (LCI) elections earlier this year, where young people across the country were overwhelmingly chosen as flag bearers. This sends a strong message that Uganda is on the verge of being led by its young people,” Atima said.

He acknowledged the contributions of older leaders, particularly President Museveni and his contemporaries, stating, “They have laid the foundation for us. This is why we have an emerging leader in Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the PLU Chairman. The election of young PLU supporters into the CEC, and the fact that most MPs who won NRM party flags in West Nile and nationwide are young PLU members, shows that PLU is gaining momentum.”

Atima further emphasized the need for youth leadership, noting that, “Young people make up over 75 percent of Uganda’s population. Why should such a significant portion of the population be led by those who have already done their part, while young people remain jobless and excluded from decision-making?”

He underscored that the rise of young leaders is a clear signal to the world that Uganda’s leadership is transitioning to the younger generation.

“Our Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, a young leader who has effectively led Parliament for the past four and a half years, making her a fitting choice for the second National Female Vice Chairperson. Similarly, leaders like Hon. Hamson Obua, my immediate boss and the Government Chief Whip, now the Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, and other regional representatives like Hon. Kasolo and Hon. Echedu, are setting the pace for young leaders under Gen. Muhoozi,” Atima said.

  1. Here I want to agree with Atim on the point that Museveni is practically passing on the NRM to his son Muhoozi Kainerugba. The “Muhoozi Project” is on and not a bluff. Museveni is handing Uganda to none else but his own son. The making of a family dynasty is blindly by people like Atima. Kadaga was used to destroy the term and age limits in the constitution. Where’s she today. The Atimas of this world who aren’t Banyakole, will be thrown like used condoms once PLU achieves the Muhoozi Project. You will soon prove it if I’m an idiot.
