The West Nile region is preparing for one of its most significant global gatherings as the Third International West Nile Diaspora Convention (WNDC) 2026 takes place from 16th to 19th July 2026 at the Leonardo Hotel, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom. Organized by the West Nile Welfare and Development Association UK (WNWDA) in collaboration with the West Nile Diaspora Community (WDC), West Nile Development Association (WENDA), Madi Cultural and Development Foundation (MACDEF), and the West Nile Foundation (WNF), the convention is expected to bring together hundreds of stakeholders from across the world.

Held under the theme “Unlocking Investment Opportunities in West Nile,” the four-day convention seeks to position the West Nile region as a competitive destination for investment, innovation, and sustainable development.

Building on a Growing Legacy

Since its establishment in 2024, the West Nile Diaspora Convention has evolved into a powerful platform that connects the diaspora community with leaders, investors, development partners, and policymakers who share a common vision for the future of West Nile.

The inaugural convention held in Stockholm, Sweden, in August 2024 laid the foundation for regional dialogue and engagement. The momentum continued with the second convention in Washington DC, USA, in July 2025, attracting participants from multiple continents. The 2026 convention in Milton Keynes is expected to build on these successes and mark a significant milestone in strengthening global partnerships for the region.

Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, Dr. Lazarus Anguvaa, Chairman of the West Nile Diaspora Convention UK 2026 Steering Committee, described the event as a defining moment in the collective journey of the people of West Nile.

“This convention represents an opportunity for West Nilers and friends of the region to come together, share ideas, forge partnerships, and unlock the immense economic potential that exists within West Nile.”

Why West Nile Matters

Strategically located at the crossroads of Uganda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, West Nile offers unique access to the wider East African Community market, serving more than 330 million people.

Recent infrastructure improvements, increased electricity connectivity, favorable government policies, and a youthful and growing population of approximately 3.9 million people have significantly enhanced the region’s attractiveness for investment.

The convention will showcase emerging opportunities across key sectors, including:

  • Agriculture and Agro-processing
  • Manufacturing
  • Tourism and Hospitality
  • Real Estate Development
  • Logistics and Trade
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Healthcare Services
  • Renewable Energy and Innovation

Participants will explore practical pathways for transforming ideas into bankable projects, attracting capital, and creating sustainable employment opportunities throughout the region.

Bringing Together Global Stakeholders

The convention will convene a diverse audience of stakeholders, including:

  • Diaspora professionals and entrepreneurs
  • Investors and business leaders
  • Government officials from Uganda and the United Kingdom
  • Financial institutions
  • Development agencies
  • Cultural leaders
  • Academic and research institutions
  • Community organizations

The gathering is expected to foster meaningful dialogue aimed at strengthening partnerships between local communities, the diaspora, governments, and the private sector.

Strategic Legacy Project: A Lasting Gift to West Nile

One of the most anticipated highlights of the 2026 convention will be the unveiling and promotion of the Strategic Legacy Project—the proposed establishment of the West Nile Museum, Information and Cultural Centre in Arua City.

The landmark institution will serve as a center for preserving and showcasing the rich history, cultural heritage, achievements, and diversity of the people of West Nile. Beyond cultural preservation, the project is expected to promote tourism, education, research, and community pride while creating long-term economic opportunities.

Organizers believe the museum and cultural center will become a symbol of unity and a lasting legacy for future generations.

Hybrid Participation to Enhance Global Engagement

Recognizing the global nature of the West Nile community, the convention will be delivered in a hybrid format, enabling participants from around the world to attend both physically and virtually.

To further expand accessibility, organizers are working with partners in Uganda to establish participation hubs in Arua City and Kampala City, allowing individuals and institutions unable to travel to the United Kingdom to actively engage in convention sessions and networking activities.

A Call to Investors and Development Partners

The convention comes at a time when West Nile is increasingly being recognized as one of Uganda’s most promising regions for investment and economic transformation.

Organizers are calling upon investors, development partners, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and friends of West Nile to participate in the event and contribute toward shaping the region’s future.

As preparations gather momentum, the 2026 West Nile Diaspora Convention is expected to become a catalyst for new partnerships, strategic investments, and innovative solutions that will accelerate development across the region.
