MARACHA: Vivian Angucia, a professional midwife, aims to leverage her expertise to address Maracha district’s pressing health challenges if elected as the district’s Woman Member of Parliament (MP) in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.
Running on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, Angucia believes her parliamentary role will allow her to advocate effectively for Maracha’s health issues with informed, professional insight.
Her primary goal is to secure a district hospital for Maracha and upgrade lower-level health facilities to improve service delivery.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend, Angucia highlighted how poor leadership has deprived Maracha residents of quality healthcare.
“We lack a district hospital, which forces us to refer serious cases to other districts. Previous leaders have failed to prioritize this issue. As a trained health professional, I will advocate for a hospital with authority and confidence,” she said.
Angucia also emphasized accountability as a core value. “When leaders are transparent, progress follows. For instance, funds meant to upgrade Loinya Health Centre II to a Health Centre III were diverted due to lack of oversight. This must change,” she added.
Beyond healthcare, Angucia is committed to promoting equality in Maracha.
“As Woman MP, I will champion initiatives to protect women from discrimination, gender-based violence, and rights abuses,” she pledged.
She also plans to empower youth through skills training and promote education to ensure all children complete their studies, including at the university level.
Angucia aims to unseat the incumbent Maracha Woman MP, Jennifer Driwaru of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who is also seeking re-election for another five-year term.
