Yumbe district Khadi, Sheikh Swaib Allahai, has urged Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) and well-wishers to support Lodonga Islamic Institute and Orphanage center primary school with infrastructural facilities.
He made the call on Monday, March 24, 2025 while receiving food items donated by UNOC to vulnerable Muslims in Lodonga.
The food was donated to the Muslim faithful to break fasting in the evenings of the remaining days.
“This center has many orphans and the infrastructural facilities are not enough. We pray that UNOC can prioritize some classrooms and latrines, it will help us a lot, ” Sheikh Allahai said.

In 2022, the House of Zakat intervened to help the orphanage which was started in 1989, by constructing two six-classroom blocks.
The six classrooms are currently being used by pupils from primary one to seven.
According to the school headteacher, Abrahman Dudu, the school has a latrine with few stances being shared by boys, girls and teachers.
Meanwhile he said the orphans in the boarding section sleep in the mosque.
“I have a gap of four classrooms that require an intervention. We have a six-stance latrine that girls, boys and teachers are using which is very inconveniencing, ” Dudu noted, adding that the needy learners sleep in the mosque because there is no dormitory to accommodate them.
“I therefore call upon all the Muslim Ummar, well-wishers and charitable organizations to come to the aid of the school,” Dudu appealed.

Yusuf Kigundu who represented the Muslim community of UNOC during the donation of the Iftar, said the challenges presented will be forwarded to management of UNOC.
“We have heard these challenges from the orphanage director, the district Khadi and the children. One of the major challenges is where both boys and girls share toilets with teachers. This is a big takeaway for us and we shall present it to our bosses in order to see how UNOC can assist this situation,” Kigundu stated.
However, Kigundu disclosed that the donation made to Muslim widows and orphans in Lodonga is part of UNOC’s corporate social responsibility which is organized yearly.
