IGANGA DISTRICT:Five armed men dressed in military-style uniforms and URA reflector jackets kidnapped two Kombucha Drink employees on the Kigulu–Nakalama road and robbed them of Shs5.5 million in sales, in an attack police fear is part of a returning pattern of highway robberies targeting business people.
The Police say the incident happened on Thursday at about 5:00pm at Kigulu Trading Centre, Bukaye Parish, Nakalama Sub-County, Iganga District.
The victims are driver Waiswa Damulira, 40, and salesman Twinamasiko Kenneth, 32, of the company’s Iganga branch. They were returning to base after supplying drinks in Kaliro, Bulumba and Buyuge, with Shs5,510,000 in sales collected.
Police say the attackers, travelling in a white Toyota Wish, intercepted the company’s white Toyota Hiace (Reg. UA 126DJ). Two wore civilian clothes with URA reflector jackets, while three wore UPDF-like uniforms and carried a rifle.
The two men were forced out of the Hiace, bundled into the Wish and driven towards Mayuge. The gang took the cash, a Samsung smartphone, an Itel phone, an ATM card and a National ID. The victims were later dumped in Mayuge District and reported the matter according to the police spokes person Busoga east ASP Michael kasadha.
The abandoned Hiace was secured by police at the scene for forensic examination.
”We note with concern the re-emergence of highway robberies targeting business people using a similar modus operandi: Toyota Wish, military-like attire and interception on highways,” Kasadha said.
Intelligence teams in Iganga, Mayuge, Bugiri and Namutumba have been alerted to track the Wish and establish links to similar recent incidents in the region.
Police say they have stepped up operations, including snap checks at Magamaga, Nakalama, Mayuge and Bugiri, and deployed motorcycle patrol squads and quick response teams on highways.
Police urged the business community to avoid moving with large sums of cash late in the evening and to report any suspicious Toyota.
The case was registered at Iganga CPS under SD Ref 125/01/10/2026, and the victims’ statements have been recorded
